Welcome to this weeks edition of Miracle Monday! Miracle Monday is created for us to share testimonies of faith and miracles that God is still performing. I know the more I read about God’s mighty works, the more excited I get and my faith is increased. Please join me every Monday for an exciting new story of what God can do! This week’s miracle is my favorite yet!
Three weeks ago, on November 28, 2011, we received a phone call that will forever be remembered by our congregation …
“Brother Mike just died! PRAY!”
I remember my heart immediately began racing and I started shaking, “It can’t be God! NO! I speak LIFE in Jesus’ Name!” The scriptures came to my memory of Jairus’s daughter …
Luk 8:50-55 “But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever prayed that fast in my life. It was like an auctioneer trying to get in as many words as fast as possible. “We rebuke death in Jesus’ name and speak life! We do not accept death! Your word says when two or three agree and bind anything it shall be done, and we bind this spirit of death and command life to come back into his body, in Jesus’ name!”
Mat 18:18-20 “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
I paced back and forth crying, binding, praying. I just KNEW God was going to do something. I just didn’t realize the extent of his plan. A few minutes later the next call came, “The Paramedics were able to revive Bro. Mike! He’s on his way to the hospital now!” Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! Was all I could say over and over. The nurse told Sister Sue that the hospitals best paramedics had been the one’s to take the emergency call, and Bro. Mike was lucky they were on call that night. But we knew it wasn’t luck, God had a plan!
When he arrived at the hospital Bro Mike was in VERY serious condition. He was barely breathing on his own and they could tell right off he had had a major heart attack. He was put on life support and air-flighted to a bigger hospital within the hour.
When Bro Mike arrived at Bangor hospital the news was not good. He was not breathing well on his own and his blood pressure was very low. After some tests the doctor spoke to Sister Sue. He had a major heart attack and was brain dead because of the lack of oxygen. They estimated he was dead between 10-15 minutes. The doctor said his prognosis did not look good. We continued to pray, pray, pray.
Brother Mike was put on a cooling system to lower his body temperature. I’m not a doctor so don’t know all the medical details, but from what I understand cooling his body slows the toxins from killing his organs and it thins the blood so it can pump easier. He was lowered to 33′ C (91.4′ F). Doctors called it “freezing him”.
When the surgeon opened him up during surgery he found one artery 100% blocked, but Brother Mike’s body had created a vessel so his blood could still pass through. Another artery was 95% blocked. And one valve was not working and blood the was pumping in and out instead of just out. But that was not the worst part. The bottom half of his heart was dead. The doctor admitted to us after, “he went so long without oxygen and the report of him being brain dead, combined with the diagnosis of his heart, I almost just stopped and sewed him back up. There was no hope for this man. BUT SOMETHING told me to keep going”. Thank you Jesus again! We know who that something was! God had a plan!
After Brother Mike’s surgery his surgeon put him back into the cooling system to “freeze” his body again. This procedure has NEVER been done in the United States right after major surgery and was dangerous and risky. But his surgeon felt that he had little option but to try to save this mans life, and he did!
Three days later Brother Mike was maintaining his temperature and breathing fairly well on his own. They reduced some of his meds, including all blood pressure meds and put him on asprin. He progressed better then they had hoped. He started showing brain activity!! What a MIGHTY God we serve!!! He was still in critical condition, but we knew we had witnessed a miracle! But God was not done yet …
Two weeks after dying, the doctor’s were able to take Brother Mike off life support. He recognized everybody and knew what was going on. Normally a shy man, Brother Mike could not help himself and said “HALLELUJAH” over and over! He asked when he could go home and his nurse said “Oh no, you have a lot of therapy to do before you can go home” He lifted his legs and shook them and said “I don’t need therapy! HALLELUJAH!” LOL
Today is three weeks from his death, and Brother Mike is coming home from the hospital! The doctor’s and nurses are so amazed at Brother Mike’s recovery and progress that the whole hospital has named him “Miracle Man!” What an amazing testimony!! But God’s not done yet … there’s more!
Because Brother Mike technically died, his life insurance kicked in and his mortgage was paid in full, over $46,000! And it’s already gone through. Usually it takes months for the paperwork to be processed. But they’ve already received the paperwork from the bank saying their debt is “paid in full”!
Three weeks ago we could not have imagined what God had in store, but we cannot help but shout and praise God for his love for his people. We don’t know the big picture, but we DO KNOW that God holds our future in his hands. If we can only learn to trust him and believe!
